Pages describing a small geographical area—typically something like a county. These pages are concerned with relevant historical information, landmarks, and resources for research.

Places covering a larger area are categorized as territories or regions.

The modern name of the place is used; if, in the past, another name was used or political boundaries were different, the page describes how the modern area was referred to and affiliated historically. Redirects may point from an old to a new name.

Locales are contained by territories. By convention, the name of a locale ends with a comma followed by the name of the enclosing territory. Redirects from a shorter name, or from the name of a major city, may exist.
